When I headed over to check out the Camarillo Fiesta with V and my cousin last weekend, I made sure to pack some coconut water, bananas and a Defender Meal Bar in my bag. I knew my non-vegan companions would have no trouble finding plenty of street fair food at this community festival, but I figured finding anything vegan, organic or even remotely healthy would be next to impossible. While we were checking out booths, we ran into my cousin's plant-strong aunt who informed us there was an all-vegan food vendor at the other end of the event. We headed that way, and I got a bit too excited when we found Strictly Vegan -- purveyors of some quite fabulous vegan, organic Jamaican food. Finally, some street fair food for people who adhere to a plant-based diet! After chatting a bit with the quite lovely Leonie (Leonie and Jamhari McDonald own Strictly Vegan), I snapped some photos, and we ordered a Reggae Wrap (at a discount - thanks, Leonie!) for me and my cousin to share. As you can see from the menu, they also offer organic salads, a raw bowl, and gluten-free and soy-free options, which makes this street fair food great for more than just the vegans and vegetarians among us.
Strictly Vegan Jamaican Cuisine doesn't have a restaurant location, so I will have to wait to enjoy it again the next time I see them at a SoCal festival, but they do events around the area and do catering! Elsie at Canaan Foods recently contacted me to see if I would like to review a few of their products and let y'all know what I think. I'm always excited to try new vegan and organic products, and to pass on my thoughts to the awesome, plant-strong folks who stop by CVC for product reviews and cooking tips! So, of course, I said yes! I just received the package, and I couldn't believe all the vegan goodies I found inside! Veggie rolls in four flavors, vegan pate in five flavors and some rather tasty-looking vegan cutlets!
Since I have quite a few products to try, my plan is to try each thing in a couple of different ways before I review them. So keep an eye out for multiple vegan product reviews coming your way very soon! In the meantime, have any of you tried any of these before? If so, I'd love to know what you think of them or if you have any suggestions on how I should cook/try them before posting the reviews.

 This is another one of those vegan dollar store deals that we are finding at the Thousand Oaks 99 Cent Only Store, but have not seen at the Ventura or Camarillo stores, so it may be the case that only some dollar stores have this in stock right now. This is just a fraction of the price that we see flax seed meal going for at conventional grocery stores, so if you have a dollar store in your area, it is definitely worth checking out! I mostly use ground flax seeds as a smoothie addition to boost the fiber and omega 3 content, and as an egg replacer for baking. How do you use ground flax seeds in your plant-based diet? Vegan Dollar Store Find: Earth Balance Vegan "White Cheddar" Puffs #plantstrong #vegetarian7/2/2013  I was pretty excited to find vegan goodness by such a well-known company at the 99 Cents Only Store in Camarillo the other day, so I had to share it with you! I'd never had these Earth Balance Vegan Aged White Cheddar Flavor Puffs before, but you know I had to get them with all those symbols on the bag saying things like "gluten-free" and "plant-based diet friendly" and "non-GMO." Who could resist, right? This is one of the things I love about dollar store shopping: I get to try new things that I probably would not have purchased at regular retail prices. And I always seem to find some new vegan dollar store deal just about every time I go shopping. I was so excited about this particular find that I bought five bags!  |
