I've been finding some truly awesome deals at Dollar Tree and 99¢ Only. I really am going to do a bigger blog post about some of the deals I have been finding regularly, but until I have time to put that together, here is one that you need to know about right now!

The Dollar Tree started accepting manufacturer's coupons at the end of August, but I didn't initially blog about it, because I thought that this didn't necessarily help out frugal vegan folks.
However, this is not exactly true. First off, this is awesome news. Dollar Tree accepting coupons is a great thing for frugal shoppers, and hopefully it will encourage other dollar stores to follow suit. This is also great news for some vegans, which should have occurred to me when I first read about it. You see, I was thinking more along the lines of the Dollar Tree stuff I usually report, which includes vegan finds that are suitable for any sort of vegan. This list typically includes off-brand vegan food items, such as frozen fruit, soy milk, flax seeds and the like -- the sort of things for which there are never coupons. Why Dollar Tree Accepting Coupons is Good for Some Vegans I seemed to have momentarily forgotten that there is a huge segment of the plant-based population who are vegan for environmental or health reasons -- not for animal rights reasons -- and these folks could potentially benefit from Dollar Tree accepting coupons. The name brand items that can be found on dollar store shelves, and for which there are often coupons, usually include things like Dawn dish soap, Hefty bags, Lysol cleaning products and similar items. All of these are a no-go for animal rights vegans, but folks who follow a plant-based diet and are okay with using products from companies like P&G will find lots of great deals on household and personal care products. Plus, other vegans should still bring their coupons along when they hit the Dollar Tree: You never know when there might be some name brand soy milk or other vegan goodness! You can visit their website to read the Dollar Tree Coupon Acceptance Policy (and to check for updates). Here is the coupon policy at the time of this writing:
I made another trip to my local Dollar Tree this week and came across a few more vegan dollar store finds. As you can see in the picture, they still have Good Grains Flax Seeds at $1.00 for one pound, which was a nice surprise.
I also found a couple more vegan deals: Frozen Mango Pieces Frozen Peaches Trail Mix Sunflower Seeds Peanuts Cashews Mixed Nuts Odwalla Bars (This is not that great of a deal, since I see these go on sale for $1.00 each at regular grocery stores.) I have purchased frozen mango pieces from the Dollar Tree in the past and use them in my vegan fruit smoothies. They taste great, and this is a great price for frozen tropical fruit, so that mango is worth a trip in itself (particularly when you can pick up some cheap flax seeds while you are there). For folks who do not commonly include flax seeds as part of their plant-based diet, keep in mind that whole flax seeds can pass through your body without leaving behind the nutrients for which we eat them. You can easily grind them up in a spice mill or coffee grinder, which will produce ground flax seeds that can be mixed with water for use as an egg replacer for baking, or added to smoothies, oatmeal, vegan yogurt or other food items for added fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. |
